Note: Your host must support SSL (Secure Sockets Layer protocol) on the server, and it must be available to your store before you can enable Encryption. |
Specifying a different key as the current key only affects new, incoming orders. Existing orders always retain the association with the key that was current at the time they were placed.
The pass phrase functions much like a password — it gives the store administrator access to the encrypted data. Rather than software determining whether the administrator has entered a matching password, the encryption key itself is actually encrypted using the pass phrase.
Very important: Pass phrases are not stored in the software or database, and cannot ever be recovered. Your pass phrases are never sent to the hosting company, or to Miva Merchant. Encrypted order information can be viewed only with the pass phrase.
Pass phrases can include upper and lower–case letters, numbers, spaces, and punctuation. In general, the longer and more complex the phrase the more difficult it would be for a person or program to guess it.
Select Current if you want this new key to be used for incoming orders.
Enter a Prompt to remind you of the pass phrase. Something like "My first car license plate," "Three favorite vegetables," or "Neighbor's pets' names."
Enter the Encryption Pass Phrase to use for this key, then enter it again in the Verify Pass Phrase field. The second entry helps ensure that you do not accidentally enter a pass phrase with a typo or other error, which could make your payment information unretrievable.
